CAP Let Down Online Casino Industry More Than A-Rod Did Baseball
O.K., I Did It!! Alex Rodriguez was supposed to be the savior. He was the player that fans were looking to take them out of the steroid era. He was going to break the records of all the steroid using players and restore the sanctity of the national past time.
The Casino Affiliate Programs, better known as CAP, had been online casino affiliates equivalent to Alex Rodriguez. An organization that was all about seeking justice from dirty casinos. A group founded for the sole purpose of protecting the industry within which they worked. They had their members’ trust much like A-Rod had the trust of baseball fans.
Then, in the span of a couple of months, both idols fell, and fell hard. A-Rod has been caught with his hand in the steroid cookie jar, and CAP has been exposed for having conflicting agendas. So the question must be asked, which of the two frauds was worse.
To start with one must examine the nature of the crimes committed against a loyal fan base. Rodriguez took steroids at a time when most of the leagues players were experimenting with the performance enhancing substances.
CAP allegedly had an ownership stake in one of the online casinos that affiliates were drilling on CAP’s own message boards. The reason, the card room was not paying their affiliates, a major no-no in the online casino industry. This would have been the equivalent to Alex Rodriguez owning a stake in the Boston Red Sox while playing for the Yankees. Worse crime here goes to CAP, in a no-brainer.
Next would be the apology part of the crimes against their followers. A-Rod came clean to Peter Gammons on Monday morning and admitted what he did was wrong. He explained his reasons for doing steroids and whether sincere or not, the fact is that he has taken full responsibility for his actions.
That brings us back to CAP. They have yet to admit any wrongdoing. Instead, they have taken the combined approach of Roger Clemens and Mark McGwire. They denied all allegations, and their co-owner, Lou Fabiano, has resigned from his position. Well, kind of. He claims to have resigned, but this may be for legal purposes more that any other. With his name off the books at CAP, it will be harder for anyone to make future financial allegations against him and his partner, Warren Jolly.
Less than a week after his supposed resignation, he showed up at CAP’s Euro London event. Interesting place for a former member of the organization. Chances are not strong A-Rod will be showing up at the spring training camps of Seattle or Texas in the coming weeks. Again, Fabiano and CAP wins the prize for biggest letdown.
Through all the allegations and battles both have endured, there is one prevailing thought that sums of the future paths of the two frauds. A-Rod will recover, and may still become the player that brings the game of baseball out of the steroid era. CAP, on the other hand, is now resorted to meaningless forums where leaders of the group and their closest friends are the only support they have left.
In a world where Rodriguez is vilified from nearly every angle, it is amazing to find that CAP has actually disappointed their fan base in a much greater way than A-Rod ever could.
