Malaysian police continue to clamp down hard on illegal internet gambling, with reports from the Bernama news agency indicating further action over the past 48 hours. In Selangor, police spokesman Chief ACP Omar Mamah of the CID revealed that police raiding parties have busted a major illegal internet football betting syndicate, believed to have recently taken wagers worth RM15.1 million, with the arrest of 23 suspects, including nine Indonesian women, in 13 separate raids. FetchTV viewers in the UK will be able to bet on sporting events as they unfold on television following a deal between online gambling group Betfair TV and IP Vision, parent company of Fetch. Police raids on cyberbookies have raked in more confiscated cash and arrests in Hong Kong, with police revealing that over HK$113 million (US$14.4 million) in World Cup bets were seized and 64 people arrested in raids in Hong Kong and southern China. Police in Shenzhen and Hong Kong cooperated in raids against cyber bookmakers operating with websites registered overseas to try to evade detection, police spokesmen revealed. Intralot Holdings International Limited has acquired a 33% stake in Russian betting firm Kelicom, gaining entre to a ‘strategic stake’ in Russian sports betting operation Favorit Bookmakers Office and its extensive gambler database. Canadian software provider Chartwell Technology Incorporated has announced that the Australian internet gambling group Centrebet International Limited has become the latest firm to select its Chartwell Games Platform (CGP) to power a Flash-based online casino.
