Betfair signs deal for ten Cryptologic games

The global betting exchange company Betfair has signed up for 10 branded games from Dublin-based gambling software provider Cryptologic. The multi-year deal will see the first five games available to Betfair’s two million registered customers before the end of the Q2, 2009, with the remaining games to follow in the third and fourth quarters. The games will be made available to Betfair through Orbis Technology’s Open Bet Fixed Odds Games (FOG) platform. Optus, the second largest Internet Service Provider in Australia, has given the federal government’s controversial plan to filter Internet content a boost by agreeing to take part in a six week trial of the scheme. Vegas land casino revenue down 23% in February

Las Vegas land casinos reported a 23.4% decline in gaming revenues to $427.4 million in February 2009, well down from the $556 million recorded in the corresponding period a year ago. Statewide, casinos won $830.9 million in February, down 18% from the $1.1 billion they won in the same month in 2008. The chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Barney Frank, plans to introduce his next bid to overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act this month (April), but he will not be resorting to the subterfuges adopted by UIGEA’s founders in getting the bill through. Revenues up by 9% to €5.5 billion and net profits up 19.6% to reach €728.5 million were highlights of the 2008 financial report released by the Greek gambling monopoly OPAP this week. Earnings before taxation increased by 22.9% to €1.056 billion.
